{"fBlogs":[{"username":"Olumyco","category":"Politics","heading":"Electricity And Security: The Two Major Problems Of Nigeria","summary":"Solving Nigeria's Electricity and Security problems will solve many other problems the country is facing. ","content":"\n\nThe best way to tackle the problems facing Nigeria is to tackle it gradually from very critical problems to less critical problems. \n\nMany of our Leaders are getting it wrong in this country. How can you be talking about education, agriculture and so on when the issue of electricity is still pending? How can we be talking of foreign investors, tourism and co when the country is not safe? One Yoruba adage says, \"if many trees fall on one another, the one lying on top of others is the one to be removed first\". \nWe need to tackle issues based on priority and ensure one is solved before moving to another. Trying to solve many problems at once is not helping. We have had 7 point agenda in this country, where did it take us to? We have had a lot of campaign promises in this country by our so called Presidents but what great change have we experienced? I think its high time our leaders dismissed the idea of tackling too many problems at a time. Let a leader fix electricity and Security and see whether our economy will not boom. Fix these two things and see whether corruption will not decrease. In fact if we can have someone who will come and solve our electricity problem only. I mean let him leave other things and focus on Just electricity alone throughout his/her tenure and see whether Nigeria will forget such a leader. Infact the person has automatically won him or herself second term. What are we saying, we want electricity problem fixed in this country. The shame is too much. If we can plan our budget to be solely for Electricity and Security in a year leaving out other projects, I believe things will improve. If the second year the duo project is not completed, we again budget for it solely. We keep doing this until we have 24 hours power supply and 80% to 90% safety in the country. \n\nIts unfortunate that our presidential candidates are repeating this same mistake. Its not the number of projects you want to do or carry out that matters but being able to fix the most critical of our problems on which other problems depends.\n\nThe problems can be fixed in twos or just one at a time. I believe Electricity and Security can be budgeted for alone and then after Education,Agriculture, Refinery, Health etc.\n\nElectricity and Security problems are peculiar and critical. We need to fix these two first. Other problems are depending on it. We Nigerians are ready to sacrifice road construction, building of flyovers, building of railways, building of stadiums, building of markets, renovating of schools and so on for fixing of electricity and security challenges in our country. We can still manage the ones we have now. Just face the building of power plants, buying of electricity equipment, buying of weapons, recruiting and training of security personnel and so on. All we want is for the country to witness 24 hours power supply and 80% - 90% Safety. This will make life convenient for us. Our Education system will improve as there will be lights to carryout experiments in our laboratories. Students will be able to read at any time. The cost of production will reduce as people will no more be using Generators again. Many businesses will be revived. A lot of SMEs will kicks off. Our GDP will shoot up big time. Also people will be able to run their businesses without fear till anytime because there will be no security threats around. Foreigners will be happy and bold to come to Nigeria for tourism which indirectly will boost our economy. Foreign investors will also be confident to come into the country to come and invest. We will even be able to bid for World Cup and host it. Insults from other countries will reduce. \nSo many things will change for better. Fighting corruption is easier with preventive measures powered by technology. 24 hours electricity will help in this area as the digital devices to cub corruption will successfully run on power without being affected with power failure. \nIf Nigeria can overcome her Electricity and Security challenges many Nigerians abroad will return home. Nigeria will become very good and habitable. \n\nI wish any of the presidential candidate who will enter in the forth coming election can do this. The person's name will automatically be written on the sand of times and his name will forever linger in minds of people.\n\n\nThanks","signature":"\nWritten by Olumide Olaleye(Olumyco)\nA Programmer and Founder of Olumycosoft. Infact they got more exposed.\n\nThe issue of Intels, Atiku's company, Obasanjo's remark about Atiku, Obi's diversion of state funds, Adamawa still one of the poorest states, amnesty to looters and so on are some of the issues that should give an average Nigerian concerns. \n\nEven the analysis of Adeola Fayehun on youtube (https://youtu.be/9c-3Q8-ijpo) says it all.\n\nI just wish we Nigerians can have a rethinking and dismiss this ideology of choosing the lesser devil and vote for any of the younger candidates vying for the post. There new ways to rig now.","content":"Rigging was taken to another level in the just concluded February 23, 2019 Presidential Election. It was the most sophisticated ever. There are now new ways to strategically rig election based on factors like type of environment, luxury of thugs and so on.\n\nBelow are the new ways (Incumbent vs Opposition):\n\n1. Use violence in places where there are tendencies of people voting for the opposition massively by snatching ballot boxes, burning votes and attacking collation centers so that their votes can be cancelled. Do this in areas where there are luxury of thugs who can be mobilised to do that. (Victim: Lagos).\n\n2. Disfranchise people who wants to vote for opposition in places that are volatile and prone to violence already so that the incumbent can have much votes and at thesame time maintain peace such that people will not become suspicious of the place which is known for violence already. (Victim: Kaduna)\n\n3. Make Card reader malfunction so that anyhow people can be mobilised and pour in to thumbprint ballot papers massively at different polling units. Also bring in under age voters to actualize this. Do this in places the opposition considers as weak areas. This will make the figures high and cause a wider gap between the incumbent and the opposition. (Victims: Kano, Kastina & Yobe)\n\n4. Strike a deal with Governors of your party and INEC officials in places where you do not have stronghold at all so that figures that can give 25% in those states can be cooked up. (Victim: South East)\n\n5. Allocate money to each polling booth for vote buying. Do this in places where the method has always worked and are not violent or have much thugs. (Victim: South West)\n\n6. Use military and police to intimidate the people. Scare them away. Do this in places where there is tendency for the people to want to defend their votes forcefully for the opposition party. Ensure this to score high or reduce margin. (Victims: Rivers State and other South South States).\n\n\"You will reap whatever you sow\".\n","signature":"\nWritten by Olumide Olaleye(Olumyco)\nA Programmer and Founder of Olumycosoft. Drop bad attitude today and watch 70% of our country's problem disappear\n\n\n\nThere have been talks and discussions on how Nigeria can come out of her numerous problems. To me I think we need to first begin with change of attitude. Our mindsets/mentalities are not right and these have affected our attitudes. I believe if we can change our attitudes, the larger part of our problems will be solved. Below are ten attitudes every Nigerian out there needs to work on and drop.\n\n1. Most Nigerians are fond of the habit of throwing things like plastic bottles, sachets of pure water and so on around which litters the environment. This is a bad attitude that we must drop. When you finish drinking a sachet of pure water, don't throw it to the ground. Keep it in your pocket or inside your bag and dispose it properly into a dust bin or a dump site. We most complain that our cities and towns are dirty but we have failed to acknowledge the fact that we are responsible for this. We complain of poor drainage system but the not too good ones we have are being packed with wastes by us and this often leads to flooding. If you and I learn to dispose those things we dont need again properly it will help our environment. Pouring dirty water on the road, throwing shells of fruits on the ground and so on are some of the bad attitudes we need to drop as a good citizen.\n\n2. Drivers and Car Owners in Nigeria are found of disobeying traffic rules by using \"One Way\" concept to skip traffic on the normal road they are in. This is bad. Driving through One Way as people would say is a bad attitude. Nigerians should learn to be patient. This bad attitude has cost us more evil than good. We blame our leaders for our problem in this country but we fail to realise we are our own problem. Is it President Buhari that said you should go and take \"One Way\"? And why must our Government spend so much to enforce law on the people?\nAs a driver or a car owner, never drive through one way. Irrespective of how intense the \"hold up\" is. Obey traffic rules\n\n3. Nigerians are fond of this habit of displaying impatience by jumping queues. You just came and then go to the front to start begging someone to allow you enter or want to force your way through. This is very bad. \nNever jump a queue. Don't go and talk to your friend to allow you to stay at his front or at his back. It's a bad attitude. Learn to respect people who came before you. Learn to be patient to queue at the back of the last person on the queue. \n\n4. Nigerians like 'awoof'. We always want to achieve things without paying money. Stop this attitude. It is bad. When there is a service or product that requires money, please pay. If you don't have, wait till you will have. Look at Electricity issue in Nigeria. Non-payment of electricity bill is one of the problems. Also illegal connection is another issue. Develop a mindset that paying for a service you are benefiting from is the best. Government is not Nigeria's problem but the attitude of the people. Stop looking for free things. Try and always pay for what you need and want. Look at our private schools, a parent will put his child in these schools and refuse to pay but can pay for Aso Ebi when a ceremony arises. Some Youths wants a situation where by they can call or browse without paying... looking for cheap code up and down, even desiring that the credit codes of these our telecom companies leak out and then begin to use it. We need to change our mindset on this, so that we will not be part of this country's problem.\n\n\n5. Nigerians have this mindset that the law is made for the poor and not the rich. They believe with money you can breach the law and bribe your way through. This is a bad attitude.\nStop bribing your way out of the breach of the law. Pay penalties when you breach the law. You don't have driver's license and you are driving and now you are caught and instead of you to ask for the penalty and do the right thing, you are bringing out money to bribe. It is bad. Nigerians should stop giving law enforcement agencies money. Try and know the law and the fines. Many Nigerians always put up this contempt attitude against the law. They just do things anyhow with the hope that if anything happens they will pay bribe. All in the name of \"Money Stops Nonsense\".\nThe problem of corruption begins with this bad attitude. People who pay bribes are liable to collect it too when the opportunity comes. Desist from doing this. Pay fines, royalties, charges and whatever you are required to pay when you fall victim of the law or use a service. The World will not collapse on you for doing this.\n\n6. Nigerians have this I don't care attitude. You see an inscription that says \"No Parking\" and you went ahead to park there. What's the meaning of that? You see \"No Hawking\" and you go ahead to hawk there. Nigerians should desist from this bad attitude of I don't care. Be observant of rules inscribed on sign posts or walls or whatever around you and obey. \n\n7. Many Road Users like pedestrians, drivers, hawkers, riders and so on have this bad attitude of anger. You and I must have witnesse one driver calling another driver \"Fool\", \"Animal\" and so on... even cursing the person. This is not good. It is true that someone one the road might have done something wrong, if you cannot correct him politely please keep quiet and go your way. Also if you were insulted or cursed on the road, ignore, don't talk and go your way. If you know you have made a mistake on the road, say sorry. Learn to admit and apologize. We are our own problem. This bad attitude of insulting and cursing another road user can result to a terrible fight. It can even cause hold up on the high way. Why should we be behaving like this? The insult or the curse won't affect you. Just ignore the person and see the person as not being matured and move on. A matured person should be able to control his or her emotions.\n\n8. Going to the house of a Politician or a rich person to hail, bow and beg for money is a bad attitude. This is one of the reasons we are backward. Stop making these people look like they have solutions to your problems. Stop collecting fish. Learn to catch fish yourself. This is very common with Street boys, Thugs and people in the small towns and villages. When a politician or a rich man is passing or goes to his village, the next thing you see is people flocking around the person. It's a bad attitude. It takes thinking outside the box to see that this thing is wrong. This bad attitude has enthrone thuggery and God Fatherism in our country.\n\nAlso is begging someone for money indirectly by hailing him and asking him for what he brought for you. This is common with gate-men, people/officers who work at Airports, non-teaching staffs who work at tertiary institutions and so on. Learn to believe in yourself and work for your own money and stop depending on someone.\n\n9. Extorting People is another bad attitude common with Nigerians. A taxi driver during rainfall can decide to inflate the transport fare just for nothing. Imagine a seller saying a bread of 100 naira is 300 naira just because he or she sees you as a stranger or from another tribe or that you are desperate about it. It's bad looking for money this way. Products or Services that have fixed price should not be inflated for any reason. It is cheating. You are taking advantage of the person by leveraging on circumstances around the person at that time. \n\n10. The whole attitude problem can be summed up in one sentence as \"Achieving a goal easily and quickly without following due process\". Many Nigerians hate \"Due Process\". We want fast things. We want quick money. We want easy money. No one wants to labour following due process. No one wants to do the right thing. May God help us. \nIf we don't drop these bad attitudes, it will be difficult for us to develop as a nation. \nMany people are ignorant of the fact that Leadership is not our problem but the attitude of the citizens. Even the leaders come from the citizens, so the problem is taking everywhere. A Nigerian is always a Nigerian and no matter the position he or she occupies whether low or high he will continue to cause problem for the country.\nThe rubbish throwers, queue jumpers, one way drivers, indirect beggars, extortioners etc are part of our problem in this country. So are The Almajiris, the Agberos, the Omo Oniles, Thugs, Cultists and other evil people.\n\nIn conclusion, before you step out of your house in the morning always take time and ruminate over those bad attitudes you are using to cause problem for this great nation and then make up your mind to desist from doing them. Tell yourself, I want to be a good citizen by doing the right thing always. I must not be part of this country's problem any more. Then step out do your work, earn your money, help someone, be happy and make your environment a better place. If every Nigerian can do this and become good citizens, 70% of our problem will die a natural death and Nigeria will become very developed.\n\nGod bless Nigeria and her people.\n\nThanks.","signature":"\nWritten by Olumide Olaleye(Olumyco)\nA Programmer and Founder of Olumycosoft. They have been in the business of ranking universities based on research, teaching, citation and so on. \n\nThis year's ranking came with a surprise as for the first time, a private University led in Nigeria. 2019 ranking data had Covenant University and University of Ibadan tied together as number one in Nigeria and number 6 in Africa. \n\nThere is another popular university ranking organisation, Webometrics but they base their ranking parameter on Web presence.\n\nBelow is the Times Higher Education Ranking of Universities in Africa for 2020:\n\n1. University of Cape Town, South Africa\n2. University of Witwatersrand, South Africa\n3. Stellenbosch University, South Africa\n\n4. Aswan University, Egypt\n4. Covenant University, Nigeria\n4. Suez Canal University, Egypt\n\n\n\n(Times Higher Education University Ranking For 2020 in Africa)\n\nCovenant University is the best University in Nigeria now followed by University of Ibadan. University of Lagos is the third. Data like this is debatable as people will always say Covenant can never beat University of Ibadan. Well this might be true but there are factors that inform this kind of ranking. There are some areas where University of Ibadan outshines Covenant University and vice versa. The ranking decision is not based on one factor but aggregate of factors and in all one University must emerge the winner. Looking at Covenant University, it's a kind of University that doesn't joke with standards and over the years the University has proved herself with the product she sends to the labour market. \n\nThis news is good for us Nigerians. Gone are the days when you look at the list of best Universities in Africa and you will see South African Universities dominating the first ten best. But now the game has changed and today South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria now dominates the top list. \n\nThis should further send a message to our Government, NUC and the body of Academicians in the country to try and ensure that our educational standard keep moving up. Infrastructure is lacking in some of our Universities and this need to be addressed so that many of our Universities can be of a high standard that will compete with the world best Universities.\n\nLooking forward with high hope of seeing atleast two Nigerian Universities in the first 100 best Universities in the World.\n\nGod bless Nigeria.\n\nhttps://www.timeshighereducation.com/student","signature":"\nWritten by Olumide Olaleye(Olumyco)\nA Programmer and Founder of Olumycosoft.
